What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion, also referred to as particle resurfacing or a power peel, is used to reduce sun damage, fine wrinkles and superficial acne scarring. Microdermabrasion uses a jet of fine crystals which are sprayed onto the surface of the skin, removing its top layers with little trauma. This technique improves the appearance of the skin, providing a non-surgical treatment option for combating the signs of aging. Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types and colors.
How does microdermabrasion work?
A hand-held machine is used to spray the skin with small crystals which exfoliate its old, outer layers. The crystals are then vacuumed up and the skin "polished," exposing fresher, more healthy-looking skin.
Does microdermabrasion hurt?
No. It is minimally uncomfortable but does not require pre-treatment or topical anesthesia.
How many times does microdermabrasion need to be performed and what results can I expect?
The average patient requires 6 treatments, each lasting approximately 30 minutes. These should be performed 1 to 2 weeks apart for optimal results. Depending on the area and condition being treated, you will start to notice an improvement after the second or third treatment. Further treatments are optional for maintenance or problem areas.

What side effects can I expect after the treatment?
What are the risks of the procedure?
There are minimal risks. The most common side effect is redness of the skin which usually resolves within 24 hours and is easily covered with make-up. Men having this procedure find that the redness is minor and resolves quickly. In rare instances, patients with extremely sensitive skin may develop temporary lines, minor pinpoint bleeding, or streaking of the skin which usually lasts less than a day.
